Das Carl Strüwe-Archiv ist Ort und Organisation für den Nachlass des Bielefelder Grafikers und Fotografen Carl Strüwe (1898-1988). Vor allem als Pionier der Mikrofotografie hat sich Carl Strüwe einen besonderen Platz in der Geschichte der künstlerischen Fotografie des 20. Jahrhunderts erworben.

Ausgebildet als Grafiker, schuf Carl Strüwe als erster Fotograf zwischen 1926 und 1959 ein eigenständiges künstlerisches Werk auf der Grundlage der Mikrofotografie. Sein Buch ”Formen des Mikrokosmos – Gestalt und Gestaltung einer Bilderwelt” (Prestel Verlag, München, 1955) vereinigt in 96 Fotografien den Kern seines Lebenswerkes auf diesem Gebiet. Mit seinen späten Arbeiten um die Mitte der 1950er Jahre gehörte Carl Strüwe zur fotografischen Avantgarde der ”subjektiven fotografie” Otto Steinerts in Westdeutschland.

The Carl Struewe Archives are the home and administrative center for the estate of Carl Struewe (1898-1988), graphic artist and photographer from Bielefeld. As a pioneer particularly in the field of microphotography, Carl Struewe occupies a special place in the history of art photography in the twentieth century.

Trained as a graphic artist, Carl Strüwe was the first photographer who created, between 1926 and 1959, an original artistic oeuvre based on microphotography. His book "Formen des Mikrokosmos – Gestalt und Gestaltung einer Bilderwelt” (Prestel Verlag, München, 1955), with its 96 photographic prints, represents the core of his oeuvre in this field. With his later work from the mid-1950s, Strüwe belonged to the photographic avantgarde of Otto Steinert’s "subjective photography” in W. Germany.
